Abdullah the Infant: Another Image of Ashoura’a, a Sacrifice for Islam

Ashoura'a spirit is in the air with the days of Muharram passing. Mourning and different events are being held to commemorate the memory of Prophet Mohammad's grandson, Imam Hussein.
Ashoura'a is not only in the memory of Imam Hussein; it is also in the memory of his household and companions, including men, women and children of different ages.
Hizbullah every year organizes a group of mourning events in different regions in Lebanon, and holds its central commemoration event in Sayyed Al Shuhada Complex in the Beirut southern suburbs.
People gather to attend the mourning rituals, knowing deep down that this is only too little of what they could offer in return for Imam Hussein's sacrifice, because if it weren't for him, they wouldn't be here.
On Friday, Hizbullah chose to organize, for the second year in a row, a ceremony special to commemorate the memory of the youngest of Imam Hussein's sons, only a couple of months old infant, a martyr in the hands of his father; Abdullah.
Sayyed Al Shuhada complex was filled with mothers who came along with their infants wearing green coffins on this particular day, to take part in the event organized to condole Imam Hussein and all Prophet Mohammad's house hold, for the martyrdom of Abdullah.
After the event was opened with verses from the holy Quran, the organizers, Hizbullah's Women Committee, delivered a speech in which they emphasized on the importance of the sacrifices of Karbala.
Sheikh Ali Slim, on his part recited lamenting verses, in which he illustrated the day of Ashoura'a in Karbala, along with Imam Hussein and his companions, and more precisely, what happened to Abdullah.
Mothers held their infants and stood up, with hearts full of will to sacrifice a part of their soul, their child, for Islam.
Abdullah, son of Imam Hussein, was killed between the hands of his father, while his father was seeking some water for him to drink.
Ashoura'a was a struggle between the right and wrong, a battle between two camps, however children became victims.
In an interview with moqawama.org Zeinab Taama, a mother of a 6 month old baby couldn't express her feelings with words, saying that she couldn't imagine her baby being slaughters thirsty between her hands.
Zeinab stressed that she would not hesitate sacrificing her child as a martyr for Islam if she must, for Imam Hussein has sacrificed his soul and his children's in honor of Islam.
Participants started to grasp the idea of their sacrifice, after Sheikh Ali Slim held a baby on stage and illustrated Abdullah's incident, which moved even the feelings of the killer.
A parade of young girls with white dresses passed by, making way for a representation of Abdullah's cradle.
People broke in tears at the sight of the cradle that represented the innocence of Abdullah. He, however, was a victim of a war against Islam.
A sip of water was requested for Abdullah, and an arrow was the response.
Tears running down her face, Ramlaa Ghazi, holding her 10 day old infant, said that at the sight of the cradle, and the illustration of Sheikh Ali Slim, she hoped that her son will be a martyr on the path drawn by Imam Hussein, hopefully one of Imam Mahdi's soldiers.
Abdullah was not only the son of Imam Hussein who was killed in Karbala; he was and still is an international figure symbolizing the innocent infant who is deprived of his right to life, or at least, his right to drink.
As Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son for Allah's demand, Imam Hussein believed that the martyrdom of his infant Abdullah was surely for the best of Islam. It was their destiny that because of them, nations live.
Believers know for sure, that Imam Hussein is the reason behind the presence of the new Muslim generations. They are the generations that are willing to follow the path of Karbala, in the goal of spreading justice against tyranny and against arrogant powers.
Karbala is an everyday story. Karbala is Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Africa, and every region in the world where tyranny is found, and confronted by resistance.
Abdullah has awakened in every human some feelings that acknowledge the true story of Ashoura'a, and the real meaning of sacrifice.
