Paris-AlIntiqad

High-ranked official sources in the European Union told "AlIntiqad" that the French intelligence opposes the issuance of the indictment on the former PM Hariri assassination.
The (French) intelligence- which was subject to huge US pressures on this topic- had informed the French president Nicolas Sarkouzy of its stance.

According to the European sources AlIntiqad met in Paris, two of the major officers in the French Directorate of Military Intelligence delivered the abovementioned stance during a meeting between the officers and the sources last Monday.

The sources also noted that the entire French Intelligence apparatuses told President Sarkouzy that France has to strictly and swiftly work on preventing the issuance of the STL indictment accusing Hizbullah of murdering PM Hariri.

The intelligence apparatuses noted that such a decision was in order to safeguard Lebanon's security, preserve safety of French soldiers in UNIFIL as well as preserving interests of France in Lebanon.

In addition, the sources reported that the French officers said extreme US pressures were exerted on the French President, through US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who conducted three phone calls with the French President Sarkouzy in order to stop him from taking such action- an action undesired by Washington.

Sources added that these American pressures have led to the current French stance, which tries being impartial between all parties, while he supports the American stance behind the scene.

The European sources said it is more likely that Sarkouzy's stance - opposing to the strategic opinion of the French intelligence- stems from his need to the American and "Israeli" Lobby in his coming presidential elections battle that is to take place in 2012, as he will run for a second term.
