Head of Lebanese Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt called upon the Lebanese government to totally denounce the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), and refuse its expected upcoming indictment.
In an interview, MP Jumblatt confirmed that the STL, that was assigned to investigate former PM Rafiq Hariri's assassination, aims at destabilizing Lebanon's stability instead of restoring justice.
In this context, Jumblatt referred that it would be suitable if the ministerial council, led by PM Saad Hariri, would meet at the moment and agree to denounce the STL and refuse its indictment.
Walid Jumblatt considered that the rumors and media reports related to the work of the STL and what it has reached have become like a dangerous drama series threatening Lebanon.
Head of the Democratic Gathering also added that it's clear that the investigations are used for political benefits, where some investigators are leaking information and are serving some countries' interests.
Furthermore, MP Walid Jumblatt believed that the real danger facing Lebanon is the rise of extremist parties, stressing that the political team should not be overwhelmed with a never ending discussion over the STL, when it should be confronting the real danger.
