STL Changes Rules of Procedure, Evidence

As the indictment is expected to be issued very soon, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon's (STL) Media Bureau announced that the Judges of the STL met between the 8th and 11th of November, in order to consider changes proposed to its Rules of Procedure and Evidence.
According to the STL press release on Friday, the Judges adopted a number of changes that are suitable to enhance the effectiveness and integrity of the STL's proceedings.
In this context, the press release read, "Amongst the most important were changes to the rules governing the service of an indictment by detailing the practical steps that must be taken after the confirmation of an indictment, in particular regarding the start of in absentia proceedings."
The press release clarified that the amendments were adopted in accordance with article 28 of the main framework, which gives the judges the right to right to adopt rules of procedures and evidence and change it as they find it suitable.
These changes will be implemented by the 1st of the upcoming December, according to articles 5 and 7 of the rules of procedure and evidence.
