The US Embassy in Beirut issued a press release published Wednesday which read, ""The United States is pleased to announce that we will transfer an additional $10 million to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)".
The press release further added, "This brings total U.S. funding for the Tribunal to $30 million since its inception".
In this context, The US Embassy's press release praised the STL's performance, where the statement added, "We applaud the brave and tireless work of the Tribunal's staff members, who continue to carry out their duties in a professional, apolitical manner".
On another level, the US embassy's press release referred to the recent incident which occurred in the Beirut Southern Suburbs, in Iman Charara's clinic, where STL investigators claimed that they were attacked by a group of women.
The press released described the incident as an attempt to create a false choice between justice and stability in Lebanon to prevent the STL from carrying out its job.
The US believed in the issued press release, that the STL establishment was a signal that Lebanon's sovereignty is not negotiable.
Washington in its statement further praised the countries that have contributed to the STL, also encouraging the international community to continue with their financial and political support to the STL.
