For the first time in its history, the US officially revealed on Thursday the total amount of spending on its intelligence and espionage networks and firms, where it was estimated in the year 2010 to reach some $80 billion.

The US administration policy had been keeping its intelligence firms' budgets and finances completely secretive, out of fear from other countries' attempts to uncover this information and compare the effectiveness of the firms to the money spent on their behalf.

In the same context, the budgets and spending had been revealed due to some document leaks through unofficial sources, which led US politicians to neglect the old fashioned policies and announce officially the intelligence firms' budgets.
