After postponing for some time, the International Commission of Inquiry of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) conducted a mock explosion similar to that of PM Rafiq Hariri's assassination.
The mock explosion took place in Captieux, one of the biggest military bases in France, under high security measures, and away from any media outlets.
Le Figaro also added that the great explosion heard at 5:05 pm in Captieux was not only a reenacting of Hariri's assassination, but was also a technical experimentation of the crime.
In this context, the French Le Figaro newspaper clarified that the leak concerning the time of the operation, lead to its postponing two times.
A high ranked source informed As-Safir newspaper that a meeting to find a final solution was held in the Elysee Palace, where the French army commanders were present, stressing on the importance of keeping the operation of a secretive timing.
According to Le Figaro, the STL was ready to spend as much as possible to make the situation as similar as possible to that of Rafiq Hariri's assassination, including providing a twin car to that of the late PM's.
A big Mitsubishi van was also provided with a ton and a half of explosion; unlike previous expectations of some 1800 kg of TNT, which was believed to cause the explosion leading to Rafiq Hariri's assassination, and the death of 22 others.
La Figaro revealed that while the operation was being prepared, some 400 security men were distributed around the military base to prevent the entrance of anyone through any of its entrances.
The technical mock explosion was witnessed by a group of experts, who are still not known whether the STL sent them, or if they are only experts on this field, invited by the authorities to witness the accuracy of the operation.
