UN: Seven Million Pakistanis At Least without Shelter after Floods
At least seven million people are still without shelter in Pakistan nearly three months after catastrophic floods devastated huge parts of the country, the United Nations said Tuesday. It further added that the floods destroyed and damaged over 1.9 million homes in Pakistan.
"At least seven million people are currently without shelter in the flood-affected areas," UN spokeswoman Stacey Winston told a news conference in Islamabad.
Winston estimated that 14 million people were in need of immediate humanitarian assistance.
This is while the UN has launched several appeals for funding the aid initiative to help the victims of the worst natural disaster in Pakistan's history.
Survivors have been left without food, water, shelter and other basic necessities in Pakistan as a result of the July-August flooding, and their situation is about to get only more serious with winter coming very soon, leaving more Pakistanis hungry and cold.
