According to Al Akhbar newspaper, Lebanese Army Chief Jean Qahwaji is worried about the conflict between the opposition and the 14 March coalition concerning the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).
The daily revealed that Qahwaji sent letters to all politicians, in which he warned them of the danger of manipulating security.
Jean Qahwaji has been receiving concerns regarding the effect of the STL and its indictment on the security situation in Lebanon, from different local and foreign diplomatic figures.
However, although he has no favor in these issues, Qahwaji expressed his concerns, believing that accusing Hizbullah members of Rafiq Hariri's assassination could cause problems, because such an accusation would lead to an internal sectarian crisis.
On the other hand, Qahwaji affirmed that the army will be doing its duty in stopping incitements, for the army is responsible for maintaining security and stability in the country.
Lebanese Army Chief referred to recent rumors that the army would be affected by any security blast, leading to a sectarian division, stressing that the army is tougher and more firm than anyone could imagine, and sectarian crises will not affect it.
Qahwaji referred that he will not let any politician lead the army into a political conflict, for the Lebanese army is a neutral military institution, and sticks to national boundaries.
