Berri to As-Safir: False Witnesses’ Issue Should Be Transferred to Judicial Council
Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri, in an interview with As-Safir newspaper on Monday, pointed out that he read Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar's report on the False Witnesses' issue and found nothing surprising in it. He clarified that the main point of discord between him and Najjar in the Berri's conviction that the issue should be transferred to the Judicial Council.
Berri assured that his ministers will defend their point of view in the session to convene on Tuesday, and will try to convince their colleagues of it. Lebanese Speaker highlighted that the council of ministers should take a decision to move on with the lawsuit against the false witnesses, adding "I will wait to see what the council of ministers will say tomorrow after the session."
As-Safir newspaper quoted Speaker Nabih Berri - head of the Amal Movement - as saying that he "strongly supports" Prime Minister Saad Hariri's premiership, adding Hariri's post "is one of the conditions" preventing sectarian strife.
