Moallem: STL Indictment against Hizbulla, Factor of Disturbance in Lebanon
Local Editor
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem confirmed that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) has become politicized.
In an interview with US-based Wall Street Journal, Moallem said that Damascus will object any efforts by the UN that aim at deciding accusations that support the international investigation in PM Rafiq Hariri's assassination.
Syrian Foreign Minister revealed that Syria has received information which says that members of Hizbullah will be officially accused of PM Hariri's assassination, and if that occurs, Moallem said it would lead Lebanon into another round of sectarian and domestic conflict.
On his behalf, Walid Moallem called upon replacing the UN investigation with a pure Lebanon investigation, where he expressed that any STL indictment against Hizbullah would be a factor of disturbance in Lebanon.
As for the "Israeli" issue, Syrian Foreign Minister praised the report Presented by the Human Rights Council Fact-Finding Committee, which found "Israel" guilty of the aggression against the Freedom Flotilla in May.
Moallem further expressed the importance of international pressure on the "Israeli" entity into implementing resolutions, in addition to joining the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which would put the enemy's weaponry under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
On the Syrian level, Wall Street Journal reported that Moallem reflected the improbability that Syria would cooperate with the IAEA, in investigating claimed Syrian nuclear programs.
