The UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon Michael Williams referred that the International Security Council, which is scheduled on 30th August, will aim at discussing renewing the UNIFIL term in the south, and could also include discussions over the Odaisseh incident.

In an interview with As-Safir newspaper, Williams referred that the Lebanese army is playing a sensitive and basic role in the south, which is considered to be one of the most important levels of resolution 1701 implementation.

Michael Williams said, "Since 30 years, this is the first time that the Lebanese army is spread along the southern borders", adding that the army did a great job, proving it is capable of leadership and management of the area, in order to make sure resolution 1701 is implemented.

In this context Williams continued saying, "I believe that the army armament is very important, and the Lebanese government should take a serious decision concerning this issue", adding that the UN supports the army, knowing that with its armament comes its success.
