A Canadian school in Toronto advised students to read a book under the name "The Shepherd's Granddaughter", which is a novel published in 2008 by Canadian author Anne Laurel Carter who worked previously in "Israel", the Zionist Jewish journal reported.

"The book tells the tale of Amani, a Palestinian girl living in the West Bank who wants to follow in her grandfather's footsteps and become a shepherd. She encounters violent Jewish settlers and "Israeli" soldiers, who poison some of Amani's sheep, bulldoze her house, shoot and kill her dog, prevent her family from harvesting their olives, and beat and jail her father and uncle," the journal added.

The Toronto district school board received several complaints regarding the book as biased and "Demonizing "Israel", in addition to efforts and calls done for taking back the decision and avoiding encouragements for students to read the book.

On his part, the school board's director of education assured, "The book has the potential to engage our Grade 7 and 8 students... in understanding the complex issues of their world."
