Poll: 82% of Russians Condemns Sanctions on Iran
A Russian radio poll revealed that 82% of respondents said they deem Moscow's approval of imposed UN Security Council sanctions against Iran a "mistake."
The poll was conducted during a live Radio Moscow interview with Rajab Safarov, director of the Center for Contemporary Iranian Studies.
Safarov considered that by distancing itself away from Iran, Moscow has jeopardized its ties with Tehran.
He assured that as a regional power, Iran would not allow any foreign interference in its internal issues.
This comes after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev strongly complained against extra sanctions against Iran imposed by the US and the European Union.
"We didn't agree to this when we discussed the joint resolution at the UN," Medvedev told The Wall Street Journal in an interview, published on Thursday.
Medvedev said Russia and the US should act collectively to have Iran back to international talks on its peaceful nuclear program.
In the interview, Medvedev said the United States had nothing to lose by imposing additional sanctions, as it has no ties with Iran, unlike Russia and China.
This comes one week after the Security Council voted to impose a fourth round of sanctions against Iran, tightening financial and military restrictions on the Islamic Republic.
