"Israeli" President Shimon Peres was unwelcomed by rallies in South Korea that protested his visit, describing him as a killer.

A Korean University scrapped a plan to award Peres an honorary doctorate and "Israeli" reports were saying Seoul downgrading the visit.

Beside a banner reading "Shimon Peres the Killer", dozens of South Korean activists gathered outside the "Israeli" embassy to protest the welcoming of the "Israeli" President holding talks with his Korean counterpart Lee Myung-Bak.

The visit has become controversial since last week "Israel's" deadly raid on Freedom flotilla that left nine Turkish activists martyred and sparked worldwide condemnation.
Four busloads of riot police were on standby, but there were no clashes.

"We are here to denounce the Lee Myung-Bak government for welcoming the internationally criticized president," priest Choi Hun-Kook said beside a banner reading "Shimon Peres the Killer".
"Lift the siege on Gaza immediately," read another banner held by Choi and his colleagues.

"Israeli" reports said Peres's visit to South Korea was downgraded from a "state" to "working" visit. But South Korea's foreign ministry denied, saying it was always scheduled as a working trip.

Meanwhile, the prestigious Korea University scrapped a plan to award Peres an honorary doctorate on Wednesday, an official at the graduate school told AFP on condition of anonymity.
The "Israeli" president and his delegation Wednesday toured the country's top scientific university, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
