The National commission held a press conference on Thursday at Commodore Hotel, Beirut, to mark the commemoration of May 25th, the day of Resistance and Liberation. The conference was held to launch its permanent campaign to commemorate this important national occasion in the history of the Lebanese, Arab and Islamic nation.
The conference was attended by a crowd of politicians and intellectuals from various parties.
Dr. Hassan Moussa, head of the National commission spoke about the basic goals of the campaign. He started, "The historic victory of 25th May was a culmination of a long arduous struggle, suffering, sacrifice and perseverance. This victory is a remarkable development in the path of the Arab-Zionist conflict, where for the first time ever the Zionist occupation was forced to leave the occupied land humiliated".
Dr. Moussa continued that this victory confirmed the ability of the resistance to defeat the "Israeli" army, which was thought to be "invincible". He said," This victory restored confidence and faith among the people of our Arab and Islamic countries and dropped the illusions that wove around the humiliating settlement with this enemy".
He moved on saying, "This historic day made by the blood of the resistance, and the sacrifices of our people and our national army led to promoting Lebanon on the Arab, regional and international level, making it a center of attention, despite its small size, which confirms that Lebanon's strength lies in its resistance."
Dr. Moussa noted that the importance of this day in the modern history of Lebanon requires from the officials and those involved in the Lebanese state to perpetuate this day as a national holiday celebrated by all the Lebanese, to highlight its national indications to the upcoming generations. "This day should be a model that would make the generations proud. It should be a path of freedom, sovereignty and national independence. It is the day that made the real struggles and sacrifices of the resistance in the field of Jihad with the enemy of Lebanon, the Arabs and Muslim nation as a whole, the Zionist enemy."
Dr. Moussa added that based on all what he mentioned a group of political organizations, students, media and cultural groups gathered and agreed on the importance of strengthening the annual observance of this national holiday as a feast for all the Lebanese. They agreed that a national commission should be formed to develop a comprehensive national program so that celebrations are held annually on the political, artistic, cultural and educational level. He said, "Everyone should participate along with their provision of creations and contributions that reflect the meaning and implications of this victory."
"The Resistance began the perpetuation of its glories and victories through the construction of Mleeta site, and so it's the responsibility of all sectors of society to invoke this historic day", he said. Dr. Moussa added that it his highly needed to immortalize this day in the history books, for educating our generations with the meanings and implications of this day is one of the most important pillars in the achievement of national immunity in the face of the Zionist entity.
Dr. Moussa ended by emphasizing that this work requires national effort and the participation of all segments of society. "The constituent commission took upon itself the task to initiate this great work, and we hope we succeed in the task of the development of the National commission so that it involves all sectors of the society to be expressive in word and deed in the essence of its mission", he said.
