US president's Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair announced his resignation on Thursday from one of the highest positions in the US administration.
Blair was the third Director of National Intelligence
This position was created by George W. Bush, in response to the 9/11 attacks, in order to oversee the nation's intelligence services and report directly to the president.
Blair, who coordinates the work of 16 governmental agencies said, "It is with deep regret that I informed the president today that I will step down as Director of National Intelligence effective Friday, May 28th."
"Blair's tenure as the overseer of the nation's intelligence agencies was marked by turf battles with CIA Director Leon Panetta and controversial public comments in the wake of the Christmas Day airliner bombing attempt," the Associated Press noted.
Rumors say that the resigned director may have lost the white house's trust in him.
An official in the American government stated under the state of anonymity that, "there are several strong candidates" to take his position.
