As the dust quietly settles on Britain's controversial elections, incoming Foreign Secretary William Hague takes a tough line on Iran's nuclear program.

In an interview published on Friday with local British newspapers, Hague made it clear that his country has no intention whatsoever to change its antagonistic approach regarding Tehran's nuclear peaceful program.

He did not provide specifics about new British administration's policy toward Iran.
However, he told the Times newspaper that "tackling nuclear proliferation [in] Iran" was one of the two main priorities upheld by the administration.

Hague claimed that "Iran's behavior in recent years has been unacceptable to the great majority of the international community."
New British Foreign Secretary added that his country will continue pushing for sanctions against Iran at the UN Security Council.

Britain's second priority, according to Hague, was cooperating with US military efforts in Afghanistan.

"Our immediate priorities are making sure that we get to grips with Afghanistan," he noted.
Hague, who will embark on his inaugural overseas trip on Friday, is expected to discuss Iran's nuclear program and the war in Afghanistan with US counterpart Hillary Clinton in Washington.
