Scotland: Muslims Almost Half of Racist Incident Victims

Scotland's Chief Statistician published Racist Incidents on Wednesday, recorded by the Police in Scotland, 2004-05 to 2008-09. This publication presents the latest figures on racist incidents recorded by Scottish Police Forces.
There were 5,123 racist incidents recorded in 2008-09, compared to the 5,244 incidents recorded in 2007-08, which equates to a two per cent decrease on 2007-08.
Despite the decrease, yet the report shows that most of the incidents targeted people of Muslim origins.
In 2008-09, around 48 per cent of victims, for which ethnic origin was known, were of Asian origin that is, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or other Asian.
