Daniel Fred, the special American envoy responsible for the Guantanamo file, expected that the US President, Barack Obama, should be able to shut down the Guantanamo base. These expectations come after the first time limit for shutting it down, which Obama promised to quickly accomplish when he was voted President.
During an interview, Fred referred that Washington is working on negotiations with some governments, over taking in prisoners from the military Guantanamo base. He further revealed his faith in shutting down the prison during Obama's first trial, which is in three more years.
Fred also met with European Union officials, aiming to gather support for their prisoner transport plan, in order to start progress in shutting the Guantanamo Base.
