Hong Kong riot police fired warning shots Tuesday during angry clashes that erupted when authorities tried to remove number of illegal street stalls set up for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Protesters carried bricks from the sidewalk to hurl at police, while others toppled street signs and set fire to rubbish bins in Mong Kok.

Many protesters and police were shown with blood streaming down their faces.

Relatively, the police spokeswoman said that 24 protesters were arrested.
