Google, Microsoft, and Facebook
expressed concern over the possibility that NSA’s practices will not only hurt their businesses, but the internet as well, at a public forum on Wednesday.

Google, Microsoft, and Facebook were just some of the companies represented at a public forum held by Sen. Ron Wyden on Wednesday, and they all expressed concern over the possibility that NSA’s practices will not only hurt their businesses, but the internet in general.

Wyden contended that the government’s "digital dragnet" of phone calls, emails and online communications doesn’t make the country safer, and only hurts the US economy.

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt cautioned at the forum that, "We’re going to end up breaking the Internet."

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s general counsel, Brad Smith, said the company’s European clients are already concerned their data is more susceptible to snooping by the NSA.

"Laws that the rest of the world doesn’t respect will ultimately undermine the fundamental ability of our own legal processes, law enforcement agencies and even the intelligence community itself," Smith said.
