A suicide car bomb attack killed seven people and destroyed a vital bridge in the city of Ramadi in central Iraq on Wednesday, where government forces have been battling extremists.

Five other people were wounded in the blast in Ramadi, the capital of the western province of Anbar, a colonel in the police force, Mahmud al-Wazan, said.

Wazan said the blast destroyed the Albu Faraj bridge on the Euphrates, in a northern district of Ramadi, which lies about 100 kilometres [60 miles] west of Baghdad.
"It is the fourth Ramadi bridge to get blown up and it was the last one civilians could use," he said.

The two remaining bridges have so far been used by the government security forces battling the so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] extremists who control some districts of the provincial capital.
