BRICS Countries Stress No Military Solution to Syrian Conflict

The BRICS countries [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] said there could be no military solution to the Syrian conflict in a declaration on Tuesday.

In the Fortaleza Declaration adopted at the VI BRICS summit held in the Brazilian city of Fortalezam, the BRICS leaders reiterated their stance that, "There is no military solution to the conflict" and stressed the need to avoid its further militarization.

"We call on all Syrian parties to commit to putting an end to terrorist acts perpetrated by al-Qaeda, its affiliates and other terrorist organizations," the leaders said in the Declaration.

"...We take note of the recent Syrian presidential elections..." the BRICS further said in the Declaration.
