Hagel Affirms “Steadfast Commitment” to UAE

US Secretary of War Chuck Hagel affirmed his country’s "steadfast commitment" to the United Arab Emirates with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nuahayyan, in a phone call according to the Pentagon on Wednesday night.

During a phone call on Wednesday, Hagel "affirmed the importance of maintaining strong bilateral defense cooperation to ensure a stable and secure Middle East," which he called "a common objective of both countries."

He further highlighted "new forms of multilateral cooperation required to address the evolving challenges of the Middle East," and praised the UAE’s "efforts to work with the United States and the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to expand regional collaboration."
Hagel and Al-Nuhayyan also discussed ongoing challenges in Syria, Egypt and Libya.
