#Ras_Baalbek Op: #Lebanese Soldier Succumbs to Wounds

A Lebanese soldier succumbed Wednesday to wounds sustained during a demining operation over the weekend when the vehicle he was in detonated a landmine, resulting in an explosion that also martyred three others.

The Army Wednesday mourned 1st. Sgt. Walid Mahmoud Freij. Born in Zahle's Taalabaya on May 15, 1986.

Freij's injuries were sustained August 19 on the outskirts of northeast Lebanon's Ras Baalbek.

His death brings the Lebanese Army's death toll in the "Fajr al-Joroud" operation up to five since the military offensive to drive the Wahhabi Daesh [Arabic acronym for "ISIS" / "ISIL"] militants from Lebanon was launched Saturday.
