Canada's largest union says it seeks to impose a ban on ‘Israeli' academics working in Ontario in the wake of ‘Israeli' attacks on Gaza.

The Ontario arm of the Canadian Union of Public Employees announced Sunday that it would propose "a ban on ‘Israeli' academics doing speaking, teaching or research work at Ontario universities" who do not condemn the ongoing ‘Israeli' military attacks against the Gaza Strip.

The ‘Israeli' raids, launched on Dec. 27, have left at least 690 Palestinians dead and 3,100 others wounded.

The now 12-day onslaught has provoked massive protests around the globe, with many nations calling for an immediate halt to the ‘Israeli' attacks.

The Canadian union, which represents some 570,000 workers across Canada, announced its plan after the ‘Israeli' army attacked the Islamic University in Gaza on Dec. 29.

"Attacking an institution of learning is just beyond the pale," said the union's Ontario president, Sid Ryan. "They deliberately targeted an institution of learning. That's what the Nazis did."
