Hizbullah`s Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah pledged on Tuesday to maintain strong ties with Iran, saying that the Islamic Republic has always supported Lebanon`s people and resistance and only worked for Lebanon`s benefit.

Speaking during a farewell ceremony held in honor of Iran`s Ambassador Massoud Idrisi, Nasrallah said that the U.S.-Zionist scheme in the region, which seeks to provoke sectarianism, was "the last arrow in the quiver of the U.S. and the Zionists."

Nasrallah said that after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of U.S. hegemony, the U.S. administration was forced to fabricate a new public enemy, a process that was facilitated by the revolution in telecommunications and creation of world-wide media outlets.

The only entity that qualified, he said, was Iran, "considering its power, energy and history."

Nasrallah said Iran and Lebanon must overcome the dangerous scheme together, as well as any conflict within Lebanon, "or else the religion and the party is just doing a big, decisive favor to the U.S.-Zionist project."

He said that throughout the past 23 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran only wanted what is best for Lebanon, daring anyone to present a statement by the Iranian ambassador in which he instigates the Lebanese to kill each other the way he said that U.S. or other ambassadors do.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said here night that Iran is a leading benevolent supporter of Lebanon while praising Iran`s massive support for his country.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the Lebanese people and Hizbullah`s military branch known as the `Islamic Resistance`, he said.

The US administration and the Zionist regime intend to cause discord among regional states, he said, adding that if their conspiracies are neutralized they would not be able to achieve anything in this region.

Pointing to US hostility toward Iran, Nasrallah noted that after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of US unilateral policies in the world it (US) began looking for other enemies.

He said the US found the Islamic Republic of Iran to be exactly what it was looking for.
Tehran has always had an independent stance and backed the call for unity among the various ethnic and religious groups in Lebanon over the past 23 years, he stressed.
The Hizbullah chief reiterated his criticism of US policy, saying it is intended to cause discord in Lebanon.

The ambassador, in turn, stressed the importance of unity among Lebanese and praised the Palestinian cause.

Idrisi also said that Iran would remain the stronghold of the free, the strugglers and Islam.
