Tehran - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here Saturday the big lesson of 'Ghadir' is fighting against disunity.
The Ayatollah was addressing thousands of people who met the supreme leader on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir (Ghadir Feast). The day marks a historical event in which the Grand Prophet of Islam (PBUH),in a place near Mecca called 'Ghadirkhum' declared his cousin nd son-in-law, Imam Ali, as his successor.
Expounding on deep aspects of Eid al-Ghadir, Ayatollah Khamenei said constant effort for making an Islamic society which was meant by Imam Ali (AS) is today's need and the big lesson of Iranian nation from the Ghadir event.
"The Muslim world should also follow the teachings of Imam Ali (AS) and avoid disunity and strengthen Islamic solidarity," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Congratulating all the Muslims, the faithful and the freedom lovers of the world on the event, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Appointing an Imam by the Grand Prophet and actually by the Almighty God shows that government, in Islamic teachings, means 'Imamat' and is not limited to running people's everyday affairs."
Expounding on the meaning of 'Imamat', Ayatollah Khamenei said it was 'management of the world affairs and the life hereafter, capturing the hearts of people and the elevation of human beings' souls' adding this makes the distinction between the government and power in Islam and other governments and Shia, using this bright torch and strong logic of Ghadir, has been able to develop in the course of history and prove its righteousness for the 'exploring and fair' hearts.
Ayatollah Khamenei said paying attention to spiritual values and the unique character of Imam Ali (AS) is another aspect of Ghadir event and urged all Muslims to take model of his government and work incessantly to establish a society which is really based on Imam Ali's teachings.
Elaborating on the characteristics of the government of Imam Ali (AS), The Ayatollah said, "Justice, sincerity, monotheism, working for the sake of God, friendly look at all human beings, being strict against any deviation from divine path were among the elements of Imam Ali's government which should be considered in establishing a real Islamic society in modern world."
The other lesson of Ghadir, according to Ayatollah Khamenei, was the importance of Islamic unity and solidarity.
"Although appointed by the Grand Prophet as the leader of Muslims, Imam Ali did not claim his right of leadership when he saw that it might damage the unity of the whole Ummah, rather he cooperated with those who were ruling the society."
"The Iranian nation has the strongest logic which is the logic of Velayat and Imamat, but it does not try to prove itself by negating others and invites all Islamic schools of thought to unity and solidarity," the Ayatollah said.
Ayatollah Khamenei warned against the 'complicated activities' of the enemies of Islam to cause disunity among Muslims and urged all Muslims to avoid insulting other groups' sanctities and thwart the plots of the hegemonic powers for creating difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims.
