The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun said that he cannot imagine that four generals detained over the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri case are involved in the crime, even by negligence. "The International Tribunal is coming and we will eventually know the criminals," he said.
Speaking to reporters following the weekly meeting of his parliamentary bloc on Monday, Aoun said he wanted an official and public apology from the Phalange party for previously accusing him of involvement in his son Minister Pierre Gemayel's assassination. "I will not reconcile with the head of Phalange party unless he apologizes publicly to me and to those whom I represent," Aoun emphasized.
The General said that the so-called March 14 forces were scared of losing the majority in the forthcoming elections. He also said that the March 14 forces looted the slogan of "freedom and sovereignty" and sold it to regional powers. "March 14 should fear the opening of their corruption files," he also pointed out.
The FPM leader, meanwhile, stressed that the Taef Accord was not a holy book and is subject to revision. "The Taef Agreement is not a sacred book and it has some gaps," Aoun said, calling on concerned people to find out these gaps and propose replacements for them. "We are ready to study these suggestions," he announced.
Aoun also declared his bloc would propose during the Wednesday Parliament session an urgent draft law on pay raises to force the government to pay the money owed since 1996. "We hope the MPs will support this draft law," he said.
