Among the dead was 15-year-old Haitham al-Jamal, who was shot on the border in southern Gaza east of the city of Khan Younis, a spokesperson from Gaza's Health Ministry said.

This brings the total number of Palestinians murdered by "Israeli" forces to at least 127 since the Great March of Return protests began on March 30.

The unarmed crowds were met with live fire and tear gas, with one Palestinian left on life support after he was hit directly in the face with a canister. Gas could be seen pouring out of his mouth as medics tried to dislodge the canister.

Assam Irwan, 25, was out demonstrating with his friends when they were directly hit with tear gas.

Thousands marched worldwide in unison in a show of solidarity with Palestinian to mark the day, from the Old City of Damascus to rallies in Toronto. In Tehran, protesters burnt effigies of US President Donald Trump and shouted, "Death to America! Death to "Israel"!"

Earlier Friday, organizers called on Gaza's residents to attend evening protests, with the message spread through mosques and loudspeakers mounted on cars touring the strip.

The crowds mainly gathering around sit-in tent camps some hundred meters from the border, with smaller numbers nearing the fence to throw stones.
