US counterintelligence officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are reportedly launching an investigation into the international business deals of first daughter and White House adviser, Ivanka Trump, potentially putting her quest for full security clearance in jeopardy, according to a CNN report Thursday.

The report cited two separate sources familiar with the matter.

The probe would likely affect Trump's level of security clearance as it did her husband Jared Kushner, who was stripped of his clearance just last week as the FBI continues to comb through the couple's international business entanglements.

According to a report in The Washington Post, at least four foreign governments -- the United Arab Emirates, China, the "Israeli" entity and Mexico -- had wondered how to leverage Kushner's business and political vulnerabilities, including lack of experience on the international stage.

Intelligence officials are continuing to investigate any of the couple's dealing that could leave them vulnerable to pressure from foreign agents, including China, according to a US official to CNN.

The report further detailed a likely investigation into a $360 million Vancouver development from February 2017, one month after her father took office, featuring 147 guest rooms, 217 luxury residences, a trademarked Ivanka Trump spa and a 616-foot beacon decorating the city's skyline.

Unlike other Trump real estate projects, the Trump Organization does not own the building itself, the report said, receiving its licensing and marketing fees from developer Joo Kim Tiah, heir of one of Malaysia's wealthiest families.

However, it is unclear why that particular development is a point of interest to investigators, CNN said.

In response to the report, a spokesman for Ivanka Trump's ethics counsel retorted: "CNN is wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application."

"Nothing in the new White House policy has changed Ms. Trump's ability to do the same work she has been doing since she joined the Administration," he added.

Both the White House and the Canada-based development company owned by Tiah, the Holborn Group, refused to comment.
