Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Lebanon is united against the "Israeli" construction of a wall on the Blue Line dividing the two countries and confirmed the US was mediating on the situation.
"The American [Acting US Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield] is trying to calm the atmosphere and told the Zionist entity he will not take any step that is provocative to Lebanon," Berri told visitors late Thursday evening.
Earlier in the day, Satterfield visited southern Lebanon and later presented proposals to President Michel Aoun on ways to maintain stability along the border with the Zionist entity in addition to confirming the US's continuous support to the Lebanese state.
Berri reported that the "Israeli" army delegation that met with the Lebanese Army during the tripartite meeting in southern Lebanon Monday confirmed that "any action related to the wall can only be taken with the approval of Lebanon."
He noted that Lebanon does not oppose the US's role as a mediator in the region but that it "should be done under the United Nations."
