Iran slammed as "unbalanced and unilateral" US President Donald Trump's first national security strategy, saying it was just a futile attempt to depict Iran as a threat.

Iran: Trump’s Strategy against Tehran Unbalanced, Futile

"What has been portrayed in this unconventional text devoid of any rationality and realism, was nothing but the repetition and rehashing of baseless and groundless accusations and illusions of a few delusional countries in the region and the US," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

The US president on Monday released his first much anticipated national security strategy, a document that lays out a framework for his administration's approach to threats facing the nation and reflects his "America First" campaign promise.

He repeated his allegations against Iran and North Korea, claiming that they are "determined to destabilize regions, threaten Americans and our allies, and brutalize their own people."

The Iranian official reacted to the "unwise content of this unbalanced and unilateral strategy" and said the US government has been seeking to play a blame game on its self-created challenges, failures and problems both on the domestic and international scenes.

He emphasized that the threats that the US assumes to be facing mostly emanate from the error-ridden policies, attitude and performance of the country's statesmen and politicians over the past decades vis-à-vis other world nations, particularly their numerous mistakes made in the "sensitive and strategic West Asia and the Persian Gulf regions."

The Iranian spokesperson said it seems that the US statesmen have no resolve to reconsider their policies and behavior and "this is the reason that they cannot tolerate the independent policies and approaches of some countries like Iran."

Qassemi warned that the new "imprudent" US national strategy would "undoubtedly push the world toward more insecurity and the spread of instability and terrorism."
