Bahrain Crackdown: Female Activist, 2 Others Temporarily Released from Detention

In further details, the Bahraini government released Ebtisam al-Saegh, Radhi al-Qatari and Mohamed al-Shakhoori from detention on Sunday October 22, 2017 after being detained since July 3.

All three detainees faced ill-treatment and torture during their time in arbitrary detention relating to their human rights work.

In this regard, the Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain [ADHRB] association welcomed the initial release of these activists, yet calling upon the government to drop all charges against al-Saegh, al-Qatari and al-Shakhoori.

ADHRB furthermore called for independent investigations into the abuses committed against these activists, with the aim of holding accountable the high level authorities responsible, in addition to individual perpetrators.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International expressed concern that al-Saegh accused the police of being tortured and physically assaulted during a previous detention in May.

The institute said activists Radhi al-Qatari and Mohamed al-Shakhoori were also released.

Bahrain's state-run media did not immediately report on the releases. The government did not respond to a request for comment.

Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, has been targeting journalists, political groups and activists in its crackdown, its worst since putting down its 2011 Arab Spring protests.
