If Iran's nuclear deal fails, the non-proliferation treaty [NPT] and the non-proliferation regime will also fail, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday.

Iran: Failure of Nuclear Deal Will End Hopes for Non-Proliferation

"I fully agree that now JCPOA is a key pillar of non-proliferation regime. And if it fails actually it would be a failure for NPT, failure for non-proliferation regime," Araghchi said.

He further told reporters that Tehran was ready for any developments around the nuclear deal following US President Donald Trump's statements.

He added that the commitments of Iran "not to go for nuclear weapons is permanent in the deal."

"I would like to affirm that Iran's commitment not to go for nuclear weapons is permanent in the deal," Araghchi said during the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference.

Araghchi also noted that after the end of the limitations envisaged by the agreement, Iran would not start development of nuclear weapons, but would become "a normal member" of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons [NPT].
