Syria, Iran Discuss Enhancing Military Relations

Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Army and the Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Ali Ayoub on Wednesday held official talks with his Iranian counterpart Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri which touched upon the strategic achievements realized in domain of combating terrorism over the past period.

The two sides also discussed the relations binding the two friendly armies and the mutual desire to enhance these relations and to open new prospects for developing them in the best interest of the two countries and armies.

The viewpoints were identical on most of the discussed issues, particularly with regard to confronting terrorism and the challenges facing the resistance axis.

Iranian General Mohammad Bagheri warned that it is not acceptable for the Zionist regime to violate Syria's sovereignty anytime it wants.

During a visit to the Syrian capital Damascus, Bagheri discussed ways to deepen cooperation with the Syrian military, pledging to fight "Israel" and the Wahhabi terrorists.

"We are in Damascus to assert and coordinate and cooperate to confront our common enemies, the Zionists and terrorists," the Iranian General said.

He further stated that both Syria and Iran "drew up the broad lines for this cooperation."

In addition to meetings with his Syrian counterpart and the Arab country's defense minister, Major General Bagheri is to meet Syria's President Bashar al-Assad during the trip.

The top Iranian commander's visit to Syria is aimed at broadening defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Damascus, holding consultations and promoting cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and exploring avenues to ensure stability and security in the region.

For his part Lt. Gen. Ayoub said "We held plenary talks which included a comprehensive assessment of all the current developments, and we discussed in details the relations binding our armies and the mutual desire to enhance these relations."

He affirmed that the Takfiri terrorist project "will end and the war against terrorism will continue till eliminating it completely and restoring security and stability to all the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic."

"The accumulating military experiences will play a key role in eliminating terrorism, and we are sure that the role of the resistance axis will be further enhanced and its ability to face different challenges will increase," he added.

Ayoub indicated that "Washington is trying to hinder the advancement of the Syrian Arab Army in its operations against terrorism through the groups which became under its control or through instructing terrorist organizations such as ‘ISIS' and others to attack the Syrian Army."
