The last few days have been very good to Hezbollah. Despite the series of losses in the battle against the Nusra Front terrorists on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the party achieved a very important victory and contributed significantly to the defeat of the militants.

«Israel»: Hezbollah Legit, Proves It is Protector of Lebanon

Hezbollah's victory over the militants in the Arsal area has strengthened the party in several ways:

1. At the level of morale: Festivities and celebrations, held in Syria and Lebanon, have demonstrated to what extent the organization's leadership is trying to exploit this success and raise its morale. This is good for them. The joy of victory felt by freed Hezbollah fighters who were held by the Nusra Front, spread very quickly. Hezbollah fighters also took pictures with signs threatening "Israel" and Avichay Adraee, the "Israeli" Occupation Forces [IOF] spokesperson.

In addition, the surrender of members of the Nusra Front only added to the celebrations. Pictures of Nusra militants surrendering and being transported by buses secured by the Syrian government were broadcast nonstop in the Arab media, where Hezbollah members took pictures with flags and rifles aimed at the buses.

2. At the level of legitimacy: Hezbollah was classified last year as a terrorist organization by the Americans and Saudis, but the recent victories in Arsal showed Hezbollah as Lebanon's protector from the "extremist killers" who threaten to expand into the "land of cedars" and slaughter the population. Hezbollah, to a large extent, secured the internal legitimacy it needed.

3. Combat experience: The longer the battle, the more combat experience Hezbollah gains. Despite the losses in Arsal, the organization managed to take control of the harsh mountainous area, without air support, in just a few days. Elements of the Nusra Front surrendered moments before Hezbollah's attack on the last five strongholds that remained in the hands of the terrorist group. It should be taken into consideration that the Nusra Front in Arsal is not the Nusra Front in Idlib, but all this does not takeaway from Hezbollah's achievement.

What then? We hope that this does not occur with the Iranians. The Iranian goal of opening a front with "Israel" in the Syrian Golan through Hezbollah currently remains unlikely.
