Trills of joy, rice and prayers for "victory and safety" - with this level of hospitality the residents of Younine, a town in the Bekaa geographically adjacent to the battle for the liberation of Arsal, welcomed the Islamic Resistance fighters and their guests passing through. At the junction that separates the village from the dirt road leading to the outskirts, lies a scene that only the people known as "the most generous, most honorable, and most pure" crafted. Young ladies, women and children handed sweets, water and juices to those passing through and heading towards the battlefield. "God protect the resistance and the army" was a phrase echoed by the people with eyes full of pride and hope for the resistance fighters.
Perhaps the key characteristics of the Arsal outskirts road are its roughness and ruggedness. The first thing that comes to the minds of those who reached the highlands, liberated from the Nusra Front terrorists, is the scale of the sacrifices and difficulties experienced by the resistance to accomplish the objective. The landscape stretches from "Dahr Al-Hawa" to "Al-Qanzah" to "Al-Qaryah" and other liberated sites: hills, valleys and vast areas, which the resistance fighters were able to free in a relatively short space of time.
Sources in the Islamic resistance's leadership explained to "Al-Ahed" the details of the battle and the importance of the achievement. Prior to the confrontations, Nusra Front terrorists controlled a 90 kilometer square stretch of Arsal outskirts. The resistance fighters managed to defeat the militants within five days, which is an achievement in itself given the harsh geographical nature of the region. According to field sources, the militants controlled the hills and highlands, which is usually difficult for the advancing force. But good and careful planning by the leadership of the resistance facilitated the task and accomplished the objective.
The Nusra militants - some of whom fled towards Daesh centers while others who abandoned their weapons and hid among civilians Syrian refugee camps - suffered heavy losses during the confrontation. More than 130 terrorists were killed in a few days. According to resistance leadership sources, the resistance fighters were able to recover more than 20 bodies belonging to the terrorists - some of them hailed from regional Arab states.
The terrorists left behind the operating rooms where they had barricaded themselves to plan their terrorist attacks against the Lebanese interior. Inside the rooms, the resistance fighters found equipment, maps, weapons and ammunition. As sources told "Al-Ahed", they found a car prepared by terrorists for a bombing in the liberated outskirts, and the resistance fighters detonated it.
The expulsion of the Nusra Front from the 90 square kilometers of Lebanese territory in Arsal outskirts provided Lebanon with a higher level of security and a more stable security situation, having significantly reduced the risk of planned terrorist projects, including car bombs and attacks on the Lebanese army. The terrorists in the outskirts are left with only two options, either withdrawal and surrender, or be killed by a people who mastered the arts of defending their homeland.
