British Prime Minister Theresa May's snap election gamble backfired, squandering her slim Tory majority.

UK Election Quake: May Has No Intention to Resign

Meanwhile Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn called on May to step down, but she said she has 'no intention of resigning.'

Instead, May will seek a coalition with the Democratic Unionist Party [DUP] of Northern Ireland.

May has been humiliated in the UK general election, failing to secure a majority for her Conservative Party, leaving the country with a hung parliament.

The PM will make a speech at 10am BST amid calls for her resignation. However, according to the BBC, she has no "intention of quitting."

The Conservatives currently have 315 seats in the Commons, but are likely to gain at least one more seat when the final counts come through.

This, however, still puts the Tories roughly 10 seats short of the 326 needed for a majority, hence why senior Conservatives are currently in talks with the DUP, who have 10 MPs in the Commons.

Earlier in April, when May took the extraordinary step of calling a snap election, the Conservatives enjoyed a 24 point lead over Labor in the opinion polls.

At the time, May denied she was taking advantage of Labor's weak standing in the polls and instead claimed she was seeking a larger mandate from the country in order to enter Brexit negotiations with a strong hand.

Reaction to the polls came in fast, with a Labor spokesperson telling the Independent the result would be "extraordinary" if it played out and would punish the Tories for "taking the British people for granted."

"If this poll turns out to be anywhere near accurate, it would be an extraordinary result.

In parallel, leave campaigners are concerned that a hung parliament could put the brakes on Brexit.
