Nouakchott Summit: This is How the Arabs Commit Suicide!

Lebanese newspapers issued on Monday, 25 July 2016 discussed the Arab Summit held in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, and the stances issued by the Lebanese Prime Minister before the beginning of the summit, especially his reassurance that Hizbullah is a major component in Lebanon's structure and a part of the decision-making in face of all challenges and entitlements.

Lebanese newspapers also touched on the oil exploration file as well as other domestic and regional issues.

AS-SAFIR: Hizbullah Key Component in Lebanon, Decision-Making

As Lebanon takes part in the Arab Summit, As-Safir newspaper said that the most difficult challenge facing the Lebanese delegation in Nouakchott is its stance on Hizbullah, amid attempts of blackmail imposed at the summit on the Lebanese state.

According to the Lebanese paper, some Gulf countries had reservations on the article on "solidarity with Lebanon". This, according to the paper, came in response to the reservations of Beirut on labeling Hizbullah a terrorist organization.

Asked on how to resolve the Gulf reservation on the "solidarity article", Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam told As-Safir newspaper that "these countries have decided to disassociate themselves from this article, at the time Lebanon is communicating with some fellow Arab countries in an attempt to resolve the issue.

Salam assured that the Lebanese delegation will deal with labeling Hizbullah as 'a terrorist group' just like it did in the past, reiterating "We have a clear stance, Hizbullah is a Lebanese party and a major component in the political structure of Lebanon, and we are keen on fortifying the internal front of Lebanon and on Lebanon's steadfastness in face of the current difficult situation."

Saudi Arabia had led the League, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in issuing resolutions labeling Hizbullah as a "terrorist" party.

AL-AKHBAR: Lebanon's Stance on Hizbullah Unwavering

On the same note, al-Akhbar newspaper said on Monday that Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam assured that the Lebanese official stance tackles the Hizbullah matter with a concern in mind; the stability of the internal Lebanese arena taking into consideration that the resistance party is an integral component in the Lebanese equation.

On the attack against the resistance party and labeling it as a 'terrorist group', Salam assured that "without a doubt, Lebanon's stance will not differ from previous times in previous summits on this matter."

He told the Lebanese daily "We are clear in terms of Hizbullah and dealing with the party. It is a major component in Lebanon, we are keen on carrying on with anything that supports Lebanon's internal front and domestic arena and Lebanese decision-making process."

AN-NAHAR: Army Carrying out Duties in Arsal, Syrian Refugees Burden Heavy

Military sources told An-Nahar newspaper that the Lebanese army is carrying out its duties in the town of Arsal and its outskirts, pointing out that the army patrols are active all night rather than setting up fixed checkpoints so that the terrorist groups would have no chance in targeting the army patrols.

According to the sources, there are more than 80 thousand Syrian refugees in the town, which constitutes a very heavy burden on the people of the area. The sources also reiterated that the Syrian refugee camps, particularly the ones set up in the outskirts of Arsal are exposed to exploitation by the terrorist Takfiri groups taking hide in the area.

Furthermore, the sources assured to An-Nahar newspaper that people in Arsal have been receiving threats of assassination, including the head of Municipality Bassel al-Hujeiri who was threatened two weeks ago by the terrorist groups. This came after the strict security measures that were imposed in the area on the Syrian refugees, such as the night curfews.

Since the Syrian unrest first erupted in March 2011, Arsal has served as a key channel for refugees fleeing Syria or extremists and sleeping terrorist cells hiding in the area. Last week, Arsal decided to impose a nighttime curfew on Syrian refugees, two days after one of the town's mayors was critically wounded in an assassination attempt.
