At least 12 Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri "ISIS" group] terrorists were killed and 21 injured in a premature explosion of their bomb in the Afghan eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, local media reported, citing the country's defense ministry.

According to the ministry, the terrorists were in the process of transporting an explosive device in the Nangarhar southern district of Achin when the explosives went off prematurely, Afghanistan's Khaama Press news outlet added.

Earlier in March, the Nangarhar authorities said that some 300 terrorists had been killed or wounded during a three-week counter-terrorism operation to curb the group's insurgency to take control of the province.

Relatively, the Afghan security forces estimated that up to 3,000 militants were deployed in Nangarhar and might be attempting to create a regional base in the province's mountains.

The country is in a state of political and social turmoil, fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups, such as Daesh, outlawed in many countries, have expanded their activities in the country.

Meanwhile, around 1,000 to 3,000 Daesh militants are stationed in eastern province of Afghanistan as estimated by coalition officials.
