Tehran on Wednesday blasted as "scandalous" and "insulting" a threat made by 'Israel' National Infrastructure Minister Benyamin Ben-Eliezer this week of a devastating response to an Iranian attack on 'Israel'. Ben-Eliezer said Monday that, "an Iranian attack on 'Israel' will lead to a harsh response by 'Israel' that will cause the destruction of the Iranian nation."
Iran's ambassador to the United Nations Muhammad Khazaee stated that Ben-Eliezer's statement was part of "the continuing warnings made by 'Israeli' representatives that constitute insulting and scandalous threats against the Republic of Iran."
"The Iranians won't rush to attack 'Israel', because they understand the significance such action would have and are well aware of our strength," added Ben-Eliezer.
Khazaee made the comments in a letter that was sent Thursday to the UN Security Council.
He wrote that 'Israel's' threats are proof that 'Israel' "has continued with its insolent, outrageous and unprovoked threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran ... in yet another manifestation of the terrorist, aggressive and criminal nature of the Israeli regime" and represent grave violation of the UN Charter.
The letter called for the Security Council to issue a condemnation of Ben-Eliezer's statements and those made by other 'Israeli' leaders recently. "The inaction of the Security Council in this regard, has emboldened the regime to pursue this dangerous course," Khazaee said. "Therefore, the Security Council should react to these vicious statements by unambiguously condemning them and calling on the regime to cease and desist immediately from the threat of using force against members of the United Nations," he added.
According to Yediot Aharonot, 'Israeli' PM Ehud Olmert, War Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tsibi Livni refrained from commenting on Ben-Eliezer's threats. "I personally saw one of them chuckling. Oh, well, so he said it, so what?" a close associate of one of 'Israel's' top leaders was quoted as saying according to Ynet.
