At least 68 members of the "ISIS" Takfiri terrorist group were killed in strikes by the Afghan air force in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

Spokesman for the provincial governor, Attaullah Khogyani, said the airstrikes were carried out across the Achin district some 150 kilometers east of the capital, Kabul.

In recent months, the eastern province witnessed a rise in the number of militants joining "ISIS" ranks.

For their part, the Taliban militants warned "ISIS" ringleader Ibrahim al-Samarrai, also known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, against "waging a parallel insurgency in Afghanistan."

Earlier this month, also some 40 "ISIS" terrorists were killed in Afghan aerial and ground attacks in Achin.

In the context, the governor of Achin Haji Ghalib Mujahid said that "Dozens of the terrorists were killed last month during an operation in which the Takfiri group's radio station in the district was destroyed."

The country is gripped by insecurity 14 years after the United States and its allies attacked it as part of Washington's so-called war on terror.

Although the 2001 attack overthrew the Taliban, yet many areas across Afghanistan still face violence and insecurity.
