The attackers tossed multiple Molotov cocktails inside the establishment located at a hotel in the Agouza area near the center of Cairo in an early morning assault, starting a fire.

Cairo Police Department is searching for the perpetrators in parallel with resuming rescue operation. Egyptian official stated that one of the suspects was an employee of the attacked restaurant.

Local media sources informed that three masked assailants reportedly carried out the attack.

Nevertheless, other sources reported that an initial investigation revealed no terrorism link to the attack, citing an anonymous source familiar with law enforcement agencies.

The restaurant is located in the basement of the hotel building, with few escape routes. The firebombing turned it into a death trap for patrons and employees. Those killed either burned to death or died from smoke inhalation.

Meanwhile, security remains an issue in Egypt as extremist militants conduct attacks mostly targeting security troops.
