Former Prime Minister Omar Karami announced that he recognized the depth of the Lebanese crisis and the sharp divisions which complicated the situation, but insisted that "the elite" of Lebanon remained "firm in their positions on a free, honorable nation which preserves the blood of the martyrs who have fallen for these principles and for the Arab identity of Lebanon."
"Israel is the enemy, and the United States, who embrace Zionism and," he continued, "who are biased in the humanitarian principles they advocate and disguise freedom and democracy not only in Lebanon but in the whole world."
The biggest proof of this, according to Karami, was Washington's reception of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, "a criminal with several sentences to the death penalty for having murdered several national figures."
"We are sure that we are proceeding on an honorable path and we will save national unity in this country, and save Arabism in its basic elements. No force will defeat us as long as we are backed by God," Karami said.
