A massive car bomb blast had injured 29 people, including six policemen, in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, the country's Interior Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the blast targeted a state security building in Cairo's Shubra al-Khaima district in the middle of the night.

"A man suddenly stopped his car in front of the state security building, jumped out of it and fled on a motorbike that followed the car," read the ministry statement.

Another unidentified source also indicated that "the explosion partially destroyed the building."

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman announced that 29 people, including six police forces, were injured in the explosion.

"One policemen suffered moderate injuries and the rest [of those hurt] had minor injuries," Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the "ISIL" terrorist group claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying its members "managed to target a police building by a car bomb in the heart of Cairo."

Some media outlets also reported a separate blast in central Giza Province.

Back on July 11, another bomb attack carried out by "ISIL" terrorists claimed the life of a passer-by in front of the Italian Consulate in Cairo.
