Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday it was ending a month-long campaign of air strikes against the Houthis in Yemen and said it would back a political solution to bring peace to its war-ravaged neighbor.

Iran welcomed the ceasefire, which followed months of factional fighting between Ansarullah group and forces loyal to the ousted government.

"Operation Decisive Storm has achieved its goals ... [including] removing the threat to Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries, especially in terms of heavy weapons," said a statement carried by Saudi state news agency SPA.

It said a new phase called "Operation Restoring Hope" was beginning. It would combine political, diplomatic and military action but would focus on "the political process that will lead to a stable and secure future for Yemen."

However, Saudi spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed al-Asseri said the alliance might still target Houthis and prevent them "from moving or undertaking any operations inside Yemen," he told reporters in Riyadh.

Furthermore, the Saudi Ministry of Defense preceded this announcement in a statement claiming "the destruction of heavy weapons and ballistic missiles in the possession of the Yemeni Army and Popular Committees."

Accordingly, the Saudi military spokesman announced the implementation of 2415 air raid in Yemen, pointing out that the operations in Yemen would continue until Tuesday midnight.

In the first international reaction, sources said, "Moscow was preparing for a draft resolution on Yemen in the Security Council which is in line with the Iranian initiative."

The sources reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had warned Saudi King Salman that the continuation of the war on Yemen would have dire consequences on Riyadh.

In turn, the spokeswoman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mardiya Afkham declared that the Islamic Republic welcomed the Saudi's halt of air strikes on Yemen, as Iran had always stressed the absence of a military solution to the crisis.

Nonetheless, the US State Department encouraged the parties seeking to find a political solution to the crisis in Yemen under United Nations auspices.

In addition, the Iranian Foreign Minister's assistant Hussein Amir Abed al-lahyan had predicted the announcement of the cessation of military attacks on Yemen within hours and the initiation of a dialogue among all Yemeni parties.

As a result, the flimsy arguments - to restore legitimacy to the ousted president as well as the alleged Yemeni threat on Saudi Arabia, and the confrontation of the so-called Iranian occupation or "Iranian hegemony" - put forward by the Saudi regime to justify its aggression and war on Yemen had been practically revealed through a clear failure of the Saudi axis.

In an opposing notion, the Saudi aggression had proved the toughness and the ability of Ansarullah to face superior Saudi airstrikes and to maintain command and control. It also proved the Saudi's inability of ground advance in Yemeni territories.

Hence, the Saudi royal family failed to lure its rented armies in its aggression on Yemen and engraved the image of Saudi Arabia as a kingdom of monstrosity and aggression.
