The Chinese government will not join economic sanctions against Russia, TASS news agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying as saying on Friday.

China Not to Join Sanctions against Russia

Chunying was commenting on a statement by US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Paul Jones.

"We come against any sanctions or threats because they are not an effective method of solving problems," Chunying said, adding that the political settlement of the situation in Ukraine is the only right way.

"The Asian countries have their own view on the Ukrainian problem," she further indicated, stating that "China is sure that sanctions are useless."

Meanwhile, Jones has said in an interview with Japan's largest business newspaper, the Nikkei, that the US intended to influence the Asian countries in order to convince them to join economic sanctions against Russia due to the events around Ukraine.
