Poll: 70% of American Troops Oppose US Ground Campaign in Iraq

The Military Times poll released on Sunday shows that 70 percent of active duty US troops are against sending American ground forces back into Iraq, which would involve "boots on the ground" in the country.
The poll was conducted as a reader survey asking the question: "In your opinion, do you think the US military should send a substantial number of combat troops to Iraq to support the Iraqi security forces?"
Of more than 2,200 active-duty military personnel, the majority- 70.1 percent- answered ‘No', as opposed to 29.9 percent who answered ‘Yes'.
In addition, over the past four years of the annual poll, the percentage of active-duty troops who believe the first US invasion in Iraq was a success has declined significantly.
The Military Times poll comes at the same time as an NBC poll showing that 72 percent of Americans believe the US will indeed send ground forces to fight so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] militants.
US President Barack Obama has meanwhile given a green light on air strikes against militant groups in both Iraq and Syria, but asserted earlier this month [September] that US ground forces would not be committed to the fight.
